ADVANCING KENYA’S DAIRY INDUSTRY THROUGH FARMER CAPACITY BUILDING
Her Excellency Dr. Yulita Cheruiyot, Deputy Governor, Nandi County, today flagged off dairy farmers from primary cooperative societies across Nandi County, under the umbrella of the Nandi Dairy Cooperative Union (NDCU), for a peer-to-peer learning exchange to Nakuru and Meru Counties.
The initiative, facilitated by the Kenya Dairy Board (KDB) in partnership with the County Government of Nandi, is a practical demonstration of KDB’s mandate to promote, regulate and develop Kenya’s dairy industry.
Through targeted capacity building, knowledge exchange and stakeholder partnerships, KDB is supporting farmers to adopt modern, productive and sustainable dairy practices while strengthening compliance with milk quality and safety requirements across the value chain.
During the exchange, farmers will gain practical insights into modern dairy production, animal husbandry, breeding, feed and fodder management, milk handling, quality assurance, cooperative development, value addition and market-oriented dairy enterprises.
The programme builds on training recently facilitated by KDB at Kaimosi Agricultural Training Centre, enabling farmers to translate technical knowledge into practical action by learning from successful dairy enterprises and cooperative models in Nakuru and Meru.
KDB’s mandate goes beyond regulation. We work to create an enabling dairy ecosystem where farmers are empowered to produce more efficiently and sustainably, consumers have access to safe and quality milk and dairy products, and the industry becomes increasingly competitive, resilient and commercially viable.
By investing in farmer knowledge, promoting quality and safety, strengthening cooperative systems and facilitating adoption of better technologies and practices, KDB is helping transform dairy production into greater productivity, stronger markets and improved livelihoods.
